Five Hair Colors to try this Holiday season

The Qu'ran states that it is permissible to dye your hair, as long as it is not dyed black. It is also acceptable to dye graying hair. The winter season is a great time to experiment with hair color. Remember to use dyes that are pure. Here are five hair colors to try this winter season. Even though hair is covered, your family will love the new color when you reveal it. by Jasmine Roziers

Ombre: This trend is not quite gone yet, but it is still a refreshing color. It frames the face with the fading color.

Silver: For those of you who are daring and edgy enough, silver hair has made a comeback. Before women were dying their gray, now they are keeping it.

Chocolate highlights: For those of you who want a subtle change, chocolate highlights are perfect against dark brown hair.

Caramel blond: It is quite the feat to go from brunette to blond, but this transition makes it easier. The blond is not too bright and still carries some brown in it.

Auburn: Sometimes when going into a salon, people often request brunette and blond shades, but they always forget Auburn. The reddish-brown is a unique color that any brave soul could achieve.

Hijab Care

By Monica Vandiver
Taking care of Hijabs can be very difficult: they are easily-worn-out materials and can be damaged if proper care is not taken. A website, Hijab Fashion Shop, gives a few do's and dont's of Hijab care. For a clean, long-lasting Hijab, first pre-treat, then wash in cold water and was in same colors or same pattern and hang dry. This will help for softer-material Hijabs such as silk and will aid in the lasting impressions of a Hijab.

Halal Remedies for Hair Loss

Halal Remedies for Hair Loss

Here are some Halal Remedies for Hair loss that will help your hair grow at the speed you desire.

1. Eat Healthy, A balanced breakfast and eating healthy will stimulate your brain to produce more allowing your hair to grow faster.

An Alternative: Drink a mean drink for breakfast. I usually add kale, broccoli, soy protein powder from trader joes, cucumber, a green apple, and green grapes. I like to keep it green and refrain from adding so many fruits to avoid weight gain because fruits are high in sugar.

2. Vitamins, if your vitamin D deficiency like me then you're missing your vitamins. Stop at your local drug store for Vitamin D and Biotin pills. You would never think not being in the sun would cause hair loss. You will be shocked how much the sun with vitamin D has impact on our lives. Here are natural alternatives you can get Biotin in your meals.

3. Deep Condition, The ingredients in deep conditioner are designed to hydrate and soften hair damaged by chemical processing (like hair color, perming or chemical straightening), heat exposure (to include curling & flat irons and the damaging effect of the sun), and medications (yes…some medication can leave hair feeling dry and rough).

Deep conditioning also helps to improve hair elasticity by restoring moisture that allows the hair to better resist stretching and tension. Think of your hair like a rubber band, the more elasticity (or flexibility enabled by good hydration) it has, the longer it can resist tension or stretching before it breaks. In addition to making the hair look healthier and feel softer, deep conditioners are essential for preventing and combating hair breakage.
A great DIY conditioner is:
  • Coconut Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
Mix in a container Jojaba Oil, Tea Tree Oil, and Coconut Oil and Massage in your hair for 1-2 minutes. After you massage all the ingredients in your hair let it sit with a cap as shown above for 15-30 minutes then rinse and add your conditioner of choice. When your done washing your hair COMB through.

Treating Hijab Hair

A common struggle most Muslim girls face is keeping their hair healthy and in great condition despite it being covered. Many people tend to assume that hijabis don’t pay as much attention to their hair as other women do. But the fact of the matter is that we do get to flaunt our hair every once in a while during family get togethers, women-only events and such, and we even like to keep it looking and feeling pretty if we’re just chilling at home. This is why I’ve decided to share some great tips on maintaining your hair, especially if you are a hijab wearer.

Every 2 days!

Wash your hair every two days instead of daily. Over-washing strips hair of natural oils and even color if you have color treated hair. A tip you can use in between washes if you have really oily hair is dry shampoo! You sprinkle some on the roots, fluff your hair out and you’re ready to go.

Treat Your Hair Well!

Avoid washing your hair with hot water because hot water encourages frizz and fluff, while cold water smooths the hair cuticle down and promotes shine. Use a shampoo that is suitable for your hair type and follow up with a conditioner. (Trader Joes Mint Tea Shampoo) It usually takes some time to find a product that works for you, go for products with natural ingredients and stay away from products with ingredients you cannot pronounce.
I use Trader Joes Mint Tea Shampoo and Crece Pelo both of which are on Amazon.com

Just Let it Dry!

Never put your hijab on while your hair is wet, give it time to air dry. But if you are in a rush, blow dry your hair only after using a heat protectant product to keep your hair healthy and avoid breakage.

Keep it Loose!

If you tend to tie your hair in a bun or ponytail, make sure that the hair is tied back loosely, so that there is still some room for it to breathe. Also, it’s very helpful to let your hair down and give it a chance to breathe when you are at home lounging and not wearing the hijab.

Wrap it Up!

Wearing cotton or lace bands under your scarf will help reduce the friction between the hair and the scarf and will hold the hair in place. However, be sure that the hair band is loose fitted and not too tight. Wearing tight hair bands could slow down the circulation in the scalp (which leads to hair loss) and stimulates dandruff and oil production.
Wearing the hijab shouldn’t be an excuse for unhealthy hair! As a gift from Allah (SWT) , we’re obligated to take care of what we’ve been blessed with. Regular care is all you need and you’ll have beautiful hair insha’Allah!
